Othello Organisation Singapore (OOS) was formed on 22nd March 2008 and registered on 22nd October 2009 by a group of Othello enthusiasts. The newly nominated President, Mr. Koh Bo Chao Alex together with his committee has decided to promote the Othello game to a higher level in Singapore.
Prior to this, the Singapore Othello scene was actually quite vibrant. Till the demise of the original association, the Othello Association (Singapore), Othello activities was conducted on a yearly basis. Sensing a pity to let such a classic game died a natural death, the new organisation, Othello Organisation (Singapore) was formed.
The newly formed Othello Organisation (Singapore) has big plans for the Singapore Othello scene. Besides deciding to hold the annual Singapore Nationals, the organisation wants to achieve the ultimate plan of sponsoring Singapore participants to the annual World Othello Championship.
Besides these, Othello activities will be brought to a higher level in Singapore. Plans are already on the way to conduct Othello clinics for schools, colleges and universities. A national ranking will be on the way to rank active Singapore Othello players. Singapore Open will also be held to attract active regional Othello players.
A common phrase heard among the Othello community is “a minute to learn, a lifetime to master”. Our slogan reads “Othello … A whole new perspective with every flip.” Simple sentences like these captures the intricacies involved with such a simple game. We believe that many Singaporeans share our sentiments and it is our hope that we can unite to bring Othello to greater heights.
